When should I get tested for sexually transmitted diseases?

It’s a good idea to get tested for STIs if you’re sexually active—especially if you have multiple partners. Many sexually transmitted infections (STIs), such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and HIV, are asymptomatic and can therefore be detected early.

When getting tested, keep the diagnostic window in mind: It takes a certain amount of time for pathogens to become detectable. You can find more information on our website under the individual STIs, or get free advice at one of our checkpoints to answer all your questions about STI testing.

How quickly will I receive the results?

You will usually receive your results within a week of receiving the samples in our laboratory.

What happens if a sample is positive?

All infections tested at s.a.m health are easily treatable. If a test result is positive, you will receive a message in your account asking you to call your checkpoint (the counseling center you selected during the registration process).

In this case, a counselor at the checkpoint will provide you with the test result and answer your questions. During the consultation, the treatment options will be explained to you and, if you wish, your advisor will support you in making the transition to medical care. This consultation usually takes place by telephone. If you wish, you can also make an appointment for a personal consultation at the Checkpoint.

Which parts of the body will I test using the s.a.m. health test kit?

The test kit contains:

  • a buccal swab (for the mouth)
  • an anal swab
  • a urine collection kit
  • a blood collection kit for your finger.

Why don't you test for ureaplasma and mycoplasma?

The DSTIG expressly does not recommend routine testing for HPV (outside of cancer screening programs), HSV (herpes), urea, or mycoplasma. The detection of pathogens that do not cause disease usually leads to anxiety and unnecessary treatment.

Friendly advice, easy and discreet ordering. No one questions whether I need the tests.
